Sometimes, I am forced to wonder about the importance of television in our life. Can we imagine a world without television in today's time? Well, many would say unimaginable! Prior to the advent of Internet, television was enjoying a place where Internet is probably having now. But still, its importance in terms of its reach to the masses all over the world has not decreased very much although the price of television sets may have come down.
Now let us take a look how the television has taken big strides by improving its form, voice quality, visual effects, working hours, types of entertainment and so on, along with its vital role play in the field of information and technology that is to say, by playing the second fiddle to computers, in the last two or three decades!
Previously, the screenplay was not used to be an instant effect. But now, it is! Not long ago, the remote control system was a non-existing entity; whereas today, one can have a number of effects with a remote control. In earlier times the number of TV channels was limited; but now, to count the number of channels a television can be very difficult! In the beginning, a television set was required to be installed with a number of accessories; but now, you can hang a television on a wall also. Further one can have a plasma screen in which the physical aspect of the screen does not exist at all.
Now talking about the size of the television: it has come of ages by being as minute as the palm and as large as a mini theatre. Also the sound and the visual quality have gone leaps and bounces according to the requirements of today's generation. In yester years, when a television used to be a means of entertainment for a particular class; but now, it has become an essential part of virtually every household, as every class can find its own taste in it. One can even find as many television sets as the number of people in a family in a single house; for, a single television set may not live up to the requirements of the whole family, and may lead to debates and disputes among the family members.
So we can say that television has changed, improved or developed itself to keep its place intact in the society rather than to loose its place because of Internet.
